After completion of his PhD, he was assigned to the Space Security and Defense Program in Colorado Springs, where he served as the Chief, Operations, Command and Control Division (2017-2019). Following this assignment, COL Pugsley was again selected for Advanced Civil Schooling to earn his PhD at the Naval Postgraduate School. Following his time teaching, he was again assigned to the Pacific Theater as the Chief, Space Branch, with the Strategic Programs Division, US Army Pacific (2011-2014).
Following graduation, he was assigned as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the United States Military Academy at West Point (2007-2011). He was accepted as a Functional Area 40 (Space Operations Officer) in 2005, and attended Advanced Civil Schooling at the Naval Postgraduate School from 2005-2007. Following the Field Artillery Officer Advance Course, he was assigned to 1-21 Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Calvary Division, Fort Hood, TX from 2001-2005, where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer, a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Battery Commander, and a Motorized Rifle Infantry Company Commander (Baghdad, Iraq: 2004-2005). He received his commission as a Field Artillery Officer through ROTC from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1997, and following Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, was assigned to 2-11 Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, HI from 1998-2001, where he served as a Fire Support Officer, Fire Direction Officer, and Battery Executive Officer.
